Slug Fest Clinic Descriptions
Climber Yoga Provided By Yoop Dog Yoga: The key to mindfully tackling tough rock pitches? Strengthen your finger grip, increase your chest-and-shoulder flexibility, and improve your agility. This class will warm up the spine and work on opening tight muscles by stretching and preparing for a day on the rock. Location Slug’s Overlook
Learn to Project Boulders: This clinic will take place on boulders at Slug's Bluff. This will be an intermediate / advanced clinic, and climbers should be able to work towards V4 moves or harder. Location Slug’s boulder field
Sport Anchor Cleaning: This clinic teaches the proper techniques for safely removing gear and lowering from fixed anchors. Participants will learn how to thread anchors, stay securely attached throughout the process, and communicate effectively with their belayer. The class emphasizes safety, efficiency, and best practices to help climbers transition smoothly from the top of a route to the ground. Location meet at Slug’s Pavilion
How to Rappel Utilizing Extensions and Backups: This class covers how to rappel safely using extensions and backup systems to improve control and reduce risk. Participants will learn how to properly extend their rappel
device, set up an autoblock or similar backup, and manage friction for a smooth descent. Location meet at Slug’s Pavilion
Self Rescue: This clinic teaches skills such as escaping the belay, ascending a rope, and assisting an injured or stuck partner using standard climbing equipment. Learn how to utilize a munter, mule, overhand. This series of hitches/knots is important for escaping belays and transferring loads. Location meet at Slug’s Pavilion
Installing Mechanical Bolts: Learn the fundamentals of installing mechanical bolts for sport climbing in this beginner-friendly clinic focused on proper technique, tools, and placement considerations. Participants will gain an understanding of rock assessment, drilling basics, hardware types, and best practices for creating safe and durable bolt placements. Knots and Hitches for Climbers: Mastering knots and hitches is one of the most valuable skills any climber can develop. In this hands-on clinic, participants will learn the essential knots used for climbing. Whether you are new to climbing or looking to sharpen your systems knowledge, this course will build confidence and efficiency in tying knots!
Improvised Rappels! When the unexpected happens and your rappel device is gone, knowing how to improvise can make all the difference. In this hands-on clinic, participants will learn safe and effective backup methods for descending using gear commonly carried on a climbing rack, along with critical considerations for friction, control, and system setup. Women’s Learn to Lead -Full Day Clinic! This introductory sport climbing clinic is designed to teach the fundamentals of safe and efficient climbing on bolted routes. Participants will learn essential skills such as proper belaying, clipping techniques, and basic movement on rock in a supportive, hands-on environment. This Clinic will take place at Sunset Gully. Location- You will meet at UPCC Tent and carpool to crag.

This course will give participants hands on instruction on how to build a solid top rope anchor. The course is designed to give you knowledge and background information and to give you actual anchor building experience under the watchful eye of our instructor.
